On The Set Of “White Collar”

8 10 2010

Last summer I got the chance to work on USA Network’s “White Collar” in New York City  as a bike messenger who almost gets run down by the FBI. I had to cut in front of a speeding sedan that was in pursuit of a getaway bus. We shot on Lafayette Street at Houston St., one of the busiest intersections in New York. NYPD’s TCD (Traffic Control Divsion) was there to lock up the entire street when we needed, and it turned out to be a lot due to all of the coverage and nailing the perfect timing for the stunt. It was a lot of fun, and after I was done, we banged out another stunt for the last shot of the day. Check out the video of Roy Farfel performing a blind reverse 180 on Mulberry Street in a beat-up cargo van. The stunt is actually much more dangerous than it looks, as Roy only has about 2 feet of clearance on the spinning side of the vehicle due to sidewalk scaffolding, and has to land the van perfectly into a tight curb-less driveway. Executed to perfection, both stunts can be seen in the “Payback” episode in Season 2 of “White Collar”.

Z-Trip’s Ride to Revolution

17 11 2009

It always nice to see credit given where it’s due, and in DJ Z-Trip’s case, 2009 couldn’t have been more reaffirming. First he was approached by the developers of Activision’s DJ Hero video game (released in October) to create 3 exclusive tracks and consult on the game’s playability and design. He ended up as one of the game’s characters, and was even featured in a promo spot that aired during the 7th inning stretch of this year’s World Series! Then came the announcement that he had won the title of America’s Best DJ in a 6-month long online vote and 25 city nationwide tour held by DJ Times, the premier magazine for professional DJs. Paul Oakenfold presented him with the award (VIDEO HERE) and afterward the two celebrated by performing side-by-side. To top it all off, the high profile Las Vegas night club Rain at the Palms enlisted Z-Trip to take over the Saturday night slot left open by the late great DJ AM.

It’s not an easy thing to do, as DJ AM was loved and is missed by not only his fellow DJs like Z-Trip, but countless faithful partygoers. In a recent story on MTV.com, he expressed his concern over the subject, stating, “I want people to understand that I’m not filling his spot or his shoes…There’s no replacement for that person.” Dubbed “Z-Trip’s Revolution”, the weekly party also features artwork created exclusively for the club by Z-Trip’s close friend and sometimes touring partner Shepard Fairey, most well known for his 2008 “Hope” poster of Barack Obama. Randall Roberts from the LA Weekly was on hand for the opening last month and had the opportunity to battle Z-Trip in his hotel room one-on-one before the actual release of DJ Hero.

Block Party 2006 Opening Night SUPERPOST™

11 12 2006

Words by Tawnya Schultz. Photos by Larry Nuñez.

Snowboard industry heavy weights fled to South Lake Tahoe last night for the The Block Party 2006. To no surprise Mark Frank once again stepped it up, welcoming athletes and media at The Block Hotel early Friday evening. Everyone mingled outside and throughout the lobby simultaneously downing complimentary cases of P.B.R., margaritas and scrumptous fresh tacos. MYG and the indamix records crew blasted tunes and a jumbo tron featured snowboard flicks in the parking lot.

Personal from the G4 network currently filming The Block reality show ran around viciously attempting to capture all the excitement and party footage. Peeps headed towards the Nevade stateline around 10 p.m. for the Nitro kick-off party inside Bill’s casino. The extravaganza continued at Vex nightclub into the wee morning hours. Around daylight, shredders stumbled to their rooms in hopes of catching some shut-eye for the big day ahead.
