“Bored To Death” Returns on HBO

21 09 2010

This Sunday, September 26th, the second season of “Bored To Death” returns to HBO. The show stars Jason Schwartzman as the real life writer Jonathan Ames alter ego, who poses as a private detective on Craigslist out of boredom and a broken heart. The first season was well-received by critics and fans alike, and features all kinds of great Brooklyn locations that New Yorkers can relate to. Part comedy, part detective “noir”, “Bored To Death” has struck a chord with viewers for its witty humor, excessive weed smoking and a solid supporting cast. Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), Ted Danson, and John Hodgman add to the great mix of characters, and guest stars galore make it apparent that this show is going to be around for a while.

Go See Pancho Get Punched in the Face!

24 05 2007

Well, it’s finally out! The movie Brooklyn Rules enjoyed a limited opening in New York and Los Angeles theaters this weekend, and has received favorable reviews from sources like Maxim and New York Magazine. Yes, it’s another “coming of age” story with a mob-run New York backdrop—but with only two episodes of The Sopranos left, I’ll take my mafia-inspired entertainment wherever I can get it. If you live in NY or LA, check out www.brooklynrulesmovie.com for show times and support this film, so hopefully it will get a nationwide release.

Of course, I’m excited about this film coming out because I got to work on it. There’s a quick fight scene in the beginning of the film (at least that’s what Exile told me, because I’m in Portland right now and haven’t seen it myself) where I get punched in the face during a bar fight by the film’s antagonist, Gino. It was tons of fun to shoot that scene and work with the entire crew (I was also the locations guy) back in 2004. I know a few people out there would probably love to see me get punched in the face…so now here’s your chance.

Over the course of 6 weeks we filmed all over the city, hitting up misty spots throughout Brookyln, Manhattan and even Queens. The film’s writer, Terence Winter, is an executive producer and Emmy winning writer of The Sopranos and 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’. The film is loosely based on his childhood experiences growing up in Brooklyn, and along with director Micheal Corrente, Terence and the rest of the crew were all really cool to work with. Congratulations fellas!

My Favorite Sites This Week

20 08 2006

Well, it’s Sunday again. Another week gone by; another new episode of Entourage to watch. Drama’s always got a good line—some witty snapback at one of Turtle’s or E’s cut downs…but there has been a couple moments this season that were questionable. Overall though: well written, acted and edited show. Tonight, the boys are going to Undefeated, the uber exclusive sneaker store in L.A. for these kicks, I guess to gain the show some more cred with the “streetwear” crowd.

Speaking of streetwear (what, you can’t wear an ALife tee in the woods?), check out this funny site www.dontbelievethehypebeast.com, which pokes fun at the trendy streetwear, sneaker and urban fashion websites like sneakerfreaker.com, freshnessmag.com, and of course hypebeast.com. Even though I’m just as guilty as the next SB Dunk wearing, BAPE hoodie, Evisu Genes, and New Era callbo rockin’ fool—this site brings it all into perspective with sarcastic jabs at the exploding urban clothing market. Check out a couple of recent posts, above and below. Fuckin’ hilarious.

Another great find (I don’t know why it took me all summer) is Amazon Fishbowl with Bill Maher. Those of you love Bill’s Bush bashing, politically incorrect, no-nonsense brand of humor can get your daily dose until the new season of Real Time kicks off next week. Over the course of 13 episodes, Bill talks candidly about drug dealing with 50 Cent, hanging at the Playboy Mansion with The Girls Next Door, and tossing salads with Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock. This is the first show that I’ve been able to sit through the entirety online (Bill’s claiming the first internet talk show), and it’s a good example into the inescapable future of television/web/advertising fusion. As Bill puts it, “The HBO show is a political show. On here…we’re selling crap.”

And lastly, www.wwtdd.com got a makeover this week, so we can read about our favorite celebrity’s latest mishap in style. This is one of the only gossip sites I read regularly, mainly because of their funny on all things Hollywood. Check it out for a good laugh. So go ahead…get your blog on.
